Stompin’ Tom Connors

March 13, 2013 at 1:39 pm (Uncategorized)

I’ve heard Canadian nationalism referred to as the love that dare not speak its name (yes, yes, I know…). Stompin’ Tom Connors, who died last week dared. He loved Canada and was unapologetic about it.

I’m not, in any way shape or form a Canadian nationalist, hell, any kind of nationalist, but the man wrote some great songs. I never say him live. Missed out on that one, but on hearing of his death, I did pull out some of the recordings for a listen. You should too. (nd have a look at the web site too:  Stompin’ Tom Connors )

I’ll go with the comment by Ken Dryden: ‘He didn’t use many notes. He didn’t use many words. Just the right number; just the right ones.”
